9 Works Theatrical is one of the Philippines’ newest theatre companies.
The company aims to uplift Theater Arts in the Philippines, to create awareness and to foster appreciation for Theater as an art form that entertains, educates, and mirrors life.
The company is dedicated to delivering only the best plays and musicals – either originally written or from both Broadway and the West End.
Its initial production, the smash hit off-Broadway musical, “Songs For A New World,” had its Philippine theatre debut in May 2009 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati starring Felix Rivera, Carla Guevara-Laforteza, Caisa Borromeo, Anna Santamaria, and Harold Cruz.
This was followed In February 2010 by the Pulitzer Prize and Tony award-winning Broadway musical, “RENT” which also played at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, Makati. The show was a smashing success, with sold-out performances that left the public clamoring for more.[1]
In October of 2010, 9 Works Theatrical staged “THE WEDDING SINGER,” the adaptation of the New Line Cinema film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. This was top-billed by the likes of Iya Villania, Gian Magdangal, Shiela Valderrama-Martinez, and Nikki Valdez and was performed at the prestigious Meralco Theater, Pasig City.[2]
RENT was then restaged in December 2010 for a special limited run at the Rockwell Power Plant Cinema 2 in celebration of the mall's 10th Anniversary, and again in February 2011, at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, that featured the likes of Ciara Sotto and former VIVA Hot Babe Sheree Bautista, due to insistent public demand.
9 Works Theatrical's forthcoming endeavor is the exciting, critically acclaimed dance comedy musical SWEET CHARITY – a show originally conceived, staged, and choreographed by the great Bob Fosse, creator of Chicago and Pippin. The dance musical follows the misadventures of dancer Charity Hope Valentine in her quest to find true love in the streets of Manhattan. The show will be staged in August 2011 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati and will be directed 9 Works Theatrical's Artistic Director Robbie Guevara. Singer-TV Personality Nikki Gil will perform in the title role, opposite singer Kris Lawrence. [3]
9 Works Theatrical is led by Managing Director Santi Santamaria and Artistic Director Robbie Guevara.
