Liana Ruppert is an American video game journalist known for her enthusiasm for games developed by Canadian studio BioWare.[1][2][3][4] Formerly working as Director of Editorial at Greenlit Content,[5] and Managing Editor at Comicbook.com,[2] Ruppert notably worked as Editor-in-chief of Prima Games [6][7] during the company's 2019 transition from print publishing to digital guides and online news. As of September 2020,[8] Ruppert is currently an Associate Editor for Game Informer.
While reviewing the 2020 video game Cyberpunk 2077, Ruppert, who has photosensitive epilepsy, experienced a grand mal seizure upon viewing one of the game's braindance" sequences.[9][10] The scene, which contained red and white flashing lights, was stated as resembling intermittent photic stimulation, a technique used by neurologists to intentionally trigger seizures.[9][11] Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red subsequently reached out[10][12] and carried out plans to significantly alter the sequence based on suggestions from Ruppert as well as the Epilepsy Foundation.[12][13]
