Wikipedia history for KFC used to say Extra Crispy Started in "1976" but now it says "1972".????----There were no commercials for "Extra Crispy" chicken before 1976 because Kentucky Fried Chicken Did not have it or sell it before 1976. And how do I know this...because in 1976 A manager at the "New Philadelphia Ohio" store sent in an idea to the "Higher Ups" (Not sure if it was to the District Manager, or straight to the Corporate office) for a new way his employee cooked the original recipe version that had a lot more crust on it that the customers really liked.....And how do I know this...Because I was the employee that quite by accident double battered the chicken and did not want to waste it, so I went ahead and cooked it. It came out with a very thick crunchy crust look, that we all know today as "Extra Crispy" And of course after a couple of weeks we heard back from the "Higher Ups"...They stated at the time that they somehow by coincidence were working on the exact same thing...but they appreciated the information and had decided to give me a .10 cent raise and promote me to Assistant Manager. That's right a whopping ten cent an hour raise and much more work as the assistant mgr. "Big companies you got to love um" Of course now over the years they will not even acknowledge this ever happened. But I was there and it did. I was just 16 at the time and from what I remember the Managers name was Randy. I am 60 now so he is out there somewhere and at least in his 70's. I wonder how much "Extra Crispy" has been sold since that Sunday afternoon so long ago. Oh and as for me when I turned 18 I moved away......but the store is still there....selling buckets of chicken............signed "I invented it 1976" ...And my source is myself..I remember the day like it was yesterday.
