Anthony Noonan [Musician]

Anthony Noonan is a multi-instrumentalist musician from Clonakilty, West Cork, Ireland. As a drummer, he has played with a variety of artists and been a member of many noteworthy bands. He also writes, records and produces his own music and has released three albums to date.

Early Beginnings

From the age of 13 Anthony began performing in pubs, clubs and venues sharing the stage frequently with the likes of legendary Jimi Hendrix bassist, Noel Redding. As house drummer for famed music bar Shanleys, and under guidance from Mossie Shanley, Anthony learned more than just playing drums but being a band member and adapting to various styles and artists.

Throughout the remainder of school and college years Anthony performed as a session drummer with a variety of artists and bands such as Jennifer Lomasney, Catcher & the Rye, Smiling Machine, Lerner, Fred, Niall Connolly and Mick Flannery taking in Ireland’s national touring circuit on a regular basis.

Drums & Coffee

In 2007 Anthony joined Irish group for Interference as drummer. With Interferenced, Anthony appearing on famed television shows such as Other Voices for a dedicated shows to the band, to touring USA as guests to Glen Hansard performing in prestigious venues such as Radio City Music Hall in New York

Anthony has continued his work with interference as not only drummer but as guitarist and since the unfortunate passing of its founder, Fergus O’Farrell, has continued working live with Glen Hansard and recorded (as yet unreleased) works of Interference.

Anthony features as live drummer for Bill Shanley’s (Ray Davies / Gilbert O’Sullivan) solo instrumental work and plays on the accompanying album ‘Midnight Mission’ released in 2018.

In 2019, Anthony toured in the UK with Mojo Hero Award winner and folk legend, Roy Harper playing London’s Palladium, Liverpool Philharmonic, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Sage Gateshead in Newcastle, Usher Hall in Edinburgh.

As a coffee officianado, Anthony often takes photos of delicious cups of coffee with his drums.

Anto'

Having returned to West Cork to put the drumsticks to the back seat, Anthony started work on his first album of his own songs. 2002 saw him tour around Ireland supporting renowned Irish artist Roesy on number of his tours. Growing his fanbase and performing under the name Anto' he played his own shows throughout Ireland and in June 2003 released Faster, capping off the Summer with a slot at the famed Lisdoonvarna festival (in the RDS) in August.

Armoured Bear

2008 saw another album released from the West Cork man. Changing the stage name to Armoured Bear, the album Honeycomb Moons was well received by the press and public and led to many TV appearances such as The Last Broadcast with Dave Fanning and The View with John Kelly. Armoured Bear were invited to support Irish band The Frames, played Electric Picnic, CorkXSW as well as the Clonakilty International Guitar Festival.

Q.U.I.E.T.

Having stepped away from songwriting and performing his own music to focus on drumming duties and session work, 2023 saw a return under a new moniker and a new album, Somnambulist. This album was written, produced and recorded by Anthony at home and has 2 follow-up albums on the way.
