History

[edit]

Lunda Norte was founded in July 4, 1978 by the Angolan government. The first capital of Lunda Norte was the municipality of Lucapa. A new capital was to be build on the region of Mulepi, but after the death of Agostinho Neto this project was abandoned. In 1997 Dundo became the capital of Lunda Norte due to the fact of having a better administrative structure than the city of Lucapa.
