Ian David Cryer British Impressionist Artist and Children's Author/Illustrator. He is best known for his Oil Paintings of West Country Landscape, Railways and Pub interiors. Ian delights in direct, instinctive response to his subjects from life. He has a deep love of 'englishness' and characterisation is a strong element in both his children's books and his paintings.
Biography
Born Filton, Bristol 1959. Emigrated to Australia 1965, returning to England 1968. First one man show 1976, The Arts Centre, Bristol. Exhibited with professional art societies since 1979, including RA, RBA, NEAC, RP,RSMA ,RWA and ROI.
Life and Career President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) [1] .He is author and illustrator of the children's book series 'Rachael the Railway Horse' [2], former artist in residence with the Crossrail Project [3], EWS Railway Company and has carried out many commissions, corporate and private, including The Royal Mail, Wadworth Brewery and Bass Museum. Work in many private and public collections including Price Waterhouse, Longleat House , Hestercombe Gardens, The House of Lords (permanent collection). Regularly writes articles for Art magazines [4] [5]. Railway preservationist and founder of the Railway Horse and Cartage collection, a private collection of historic vehicles celebrating the role of the horse in the history of railways.
Personal life
His first wife was an alcoholic. He now enjoys living in the West Country with his second wife, Felicity and their four children.
