Article Evaluation
[edit]I visited the Ben Sisario article on Wikipedia and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: his occupation as a reporter, his authorship, and his contributions in entertainment in New York. I had three major questions on this article while evaluating it, and I will now put them into statements. The article left out key points in his job description, many points were underrepresented, and the reliability could have been enhanced.
The original article tells us “He is a staff reporter for The New York Times, covering music and culture.” Many key points are left out about his job description. I would add, “He is a staff reporter and covers the music world for The New York Times, including the business side of the industry, the artists who make the music and how it is consumed by the public. He is currently on the paper’s Media desk, covering the music industry. He has covered the death of Michael Jackson, the rise of streaming music services, the return of vinyl, the music business in China and cultural topics like Bob Dylan’s archives and the history of rock music in Cambodia.”
In the original article, there is one sentenced mentioned about his teaching, and the only mention of his authorship is that of, “Sisario is also the author of Doolittle (2006) a non-fiction book in the 33⅓ series about the studio album Doolittle (1989) by the Pixies, an alternative-rock band.” The original article did well on citations in this regard, but definitely underrepresented him. I would add, “He taught at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University and is an accomplished author! His most famous book is “Doolittle,” a book about the Pixies. Its description[2] is as follows, The Pixies have had a career unlike any other in alternative rock, disappearing as not-quite-the-next-big-things only to become gods in absentia. Doolittle is their knotty masterpiece, the embodiment of the Pixies' abrasive, exuberant, enigmatic pop. Informed by exclusive interviews with the band, Sisario looks at the making of the album and its place in rock history, and studies its continued influence in light of the Pixies triumphant reunion. He has written about the streaming music wars, Bob Dylan's secret archives, the world of high-tech ticket scalping and the lost pop music of Cambodia, among other subjects.”
Finally, we come to his contributions in entertainment! In the orginal article we are given, “Sisario is a contributor to Blender, New York, Rolling Stone, Spin, New York City public-radio station WFUV and The Village Voice's annual Paz & Jop music critics' poll.” The citations could be improved regarding the divisions he worked on, all that is given is the definition of the event. I might include, “Sisario has written for Rolling Stone, Spin, Blender, The Village Voice, New York Press and many other publications, and been a contributing commentator to WFUV, a public radio station in New York City. WFUV is a non-commercial radio station licensed to New York City. The station is owned by Fordham University with studios on its Bronx campus and its antenna atop nearby Montefiore Medical Center.”
I felt that the original article left out key points in his job description, many points were under represented and the reliability could have been better, so i extended Ben's descriptions and history. Ben Sisario[3] has been, and is continuing to be of great value to the Entertainment Industry, especially within the walls of New York. With his knowledge, teaching and experience in the realm of journalism, authorship and commentating, he is a prime example of being zealous!
