Life and Career
[edit]Grasshopper: Inspired by Anita Mui
[edit]Remus lived in a poor neighbourhood in Hong Kong with his older brother Calvin and Edmond, who was their childhood friend. Remus, 16 at the time, was the one who was first interested in singing and dancing. His dancing teacher was his mother. He joined a talent competition called New Talent Singing Awards in 1985 and enlisted Calvin and Edmond as assistant back-up dancers - they named themselves Grasshopper Boys because of their young age, favourite cocktail and dancing abilities that resembled said insect. Their act did not proceed to win the competition but they became a finalist [1] and was noticed by Anita Mui, who was a judge and one of the previous winners.[2] She signed them in 1986 and they renamed themselves Grasshopper. Besides their parents, they state that Anita Mui is the person they most respect. [3] They began to sing and work together as a trio, releasing their first album in 1988.
