Stanley Peter Dance is a prominent conchologist with a world-wide reputation. He has written innumerable books and papers on conchology. He has had at least five shells named after him e.g. Acteon Dancei.[1]
Biography
[edit]He was born on 3rd February 1932 in Maidenhead, Berkshire, and he currently resides in Carlisle. He served in the Royal Air Force from 1951 to 1956, during which he was involved in the Suez Crisis of 1956. His hobby of shell collecting enabled him to find employment in museums as an archivist and curator. He also developed and displayed shell collections while travelling the world to research and catalogue shells.[2]

- 1968-1972 Assistant Keeper, National Museum of Wales, Cardiff. He was responsible of the shell collection. His collections include shells from Britain, Florida, Borneo and material from the Arabian Sea/Gulf of Oman used for the book Seashells of Eastern Arabia.[3]
