Basheer K. Nijim (1936-1991) was a Palestinian geographer and historian.

Early life

Nijim was born September 13, 1936, in Tulkarm, Palestine, to Khalil and Bassimah Nijim. He had three brothers, Bassim, Ibrahim and twin brother Badie, and two sisters, Ghada and Bushra. The family belonged to the Greek Orthodox Church.

Education and work

Nijim joined the University of Northern Iowa in 1962 as Assistant Professor, in 1972 he became a Professor.

Personal life

he married an English Professor, Germana Portesan in 1966, and died of cancer 1991, leaving behind his wife, two sons; Faris and Sharif, and two siblings; Badie and Ghada.
