Smoking Spore is a wonderfull band.
History
[edit]Smoking spore was conceived in the primordial ooze that is the independent rock scene in Houston. friends and contributors in many other projects, the band members were actually freinds long beofre the creation of smoking spore. Brandon Bowers head of his own recording studio(Dugong recording) and student of the arts actually spread his creative influence into many diffrent mediums.Thru his Art distribution(Subtractive Attractions) his artistict vision was realised thru a stylke of scratch board art that perfectly complimented the gruff tone and somber lyrics of his own orginal songwriting. He and other Band Mates Brendon Thompson and Beau Jackson atteneded Klein High School in Spring,Texas where their creative minds met for the first time in a band called Alchemist. Alchemist released one album "Hectic and Homemade" met with mixed reviews from their peers and sparked the a working relations ship that would continue through to their many other projects.Billy Sullivan the groups drummer was introducded by way of the band Made in Vain, for which he is also the drummer, in 2007. Made in Vain, one of the bands under the Umbrella of Dugong Recording/Ground Sloth Media found remote success in the Texas metal underground and paved the way for other colaberations to become a reality for diffrent members of the musical group. Only after months of interchanging instruments, distortion sounds and and late night jam sessions were they able to find the sound they were hoping to acheive. The name Smoking Spore was chosen as a representaion of what the sound could look like if painted on a canvas.
Conversations in D-minor
[edit]Smoking Spores first outing actually contains a rock and roll legend esque tale associated with its creation. About four and a half minutes into its Pachyderm romp, a sample rate error with their pre-amp shut down the recording, and the band played on to create what could have been an aditional hour or so of music on the album. The rmaining tracks however do clock in at a hefty 74 minutes of pure instrumental rock.
The Live Albums
[edit]Personifing the term Improvisational Smoking Spore has adopted an unorthadox recording strategy.
Musical style and evolution
[edit]The band's style is as uniquie as the music it creates. With a commitment made to their fans not to do any overdubbing or writting, every song is intended to be a ride through the instincts of the musicians.
Influences
[edit][1]"have a strong whiff of Hendrix and Joe Satriani." [2]"Fans of Colour Haze and Earthless take note."
In the studio
[edit]The Original practice space was recently shut down in a legal dispute that housed smoking spore.
