Jonathan Fischer is currently the professor of oboe at the University of Houston along with Adam Dinitz. Fischer is the principal oboist of the Houston Symphony along with Anne. Adam Dinitz is the English hornist in the Houston Symphony, sharing the oboe/English horn section of the symphony with Jonathan Fischer, Anne Leek (assc. principal), and Colin Gatwood, the 2nd oboist.
Previously, Fischer studied with Richard Woodhams at the Curtis Institute of Music. He grew up in the Carolinas and travels there often to visit his family. Before his career with the Houston Symphony, he started a career with the San Francisco Symphony in 2003. In addition the oboe studio at University of Houston, Fischer is the private lesson teacher of a few high school oboists, such as Jeff Winchell, a student at HSPVA
