The students have different target schools, and ironically, both Nate and Dan aspire for the Dartmouth College representative, although the Archibald has second thoughts. "The Captain" already persuaded his son to clinch the ushership, though. Blair and Serena continued their feud on a physical field hockey match where Serena was ejected from the game.
After the interviews were done, the results were posted with Nate nabbing the Dartmouth position, leaving Dan out of the loop. A disappointed Dan confided to Rufus what happened, which led him asking Lily to assign Dan another position in the event, which was eventually the juice server.
When Serena was on her way to visit Eric at the Ostroff Treatment Center, Chuck caught her and assumed she was under medication. He and Blair hatched a plan that'll lead to Serena's public humiliation at the mixer. The doctors allowed Eric to attend to the mixer.
On the Ivy Mixer, Nate allowed Dan to usher the Darhmouth representative, which led to the Captain berating him; he eventually left the mixer. After that, Blair announced to the entire school that Serena had a drug problem, heeding Lily's advice to protect Eric, Serena admitted her nonexistent drug problem in which Dan expressed his admiration to her when she was leaving. Dan learned that Eric was the one with the depression problem when he learned it from Jenny, who had earlier talked to Eric.
Eric himself showed Blair his suicide scars to Blair after Serena had left. Blair was flabbergasted at Eric admission and realized Serena must have been in a bad situation. The day after, she went to the Bethesda Fountain in which she read to Serena about the letter she didn't send to her, in which she expressed that she was in a tough time. The two reconciled.

Serena then invited Blair to go out for a girls' day out. Meanwhile, Chuck and Nate hold their own boys' weekend at the Bass suite when St. Jude's graduate Carter Baizen gatecrashes the party.
Serena then encounters Dan on the Upper East Side streets and invites him to a date. On the Bass suite, Nate is convinced by Carter to find "the new meaning of life," disregarding Chuck's suggestion to party the night away.
When Eleanor was looking for a model for her fashion line, Serena suggests Blair to represent the line. Blair happily agrees but the photographer finds her too stiff. Serena helps Blair to loosen up as the photoshoot wears on, leading Serena to miss her date with Dan. Nate meanwhile ditches Chuck's party and follows Carter to a high-stakes poker match.
Eleanor was then visited by her fashion advisers telling her that Blair was too stiff and instead recommended Serena instead; the next morning, Eleanor tells Blair not to go to that day's photoshoot since she had found a new model. Blair goes anyway but turns furious when she saw Serena was the new model. Serena follows Blair to a stairwell and shouted at each other, just when Dan was arriving, having been invited by Serena.
At Rufus' art gallery, an art dealer named Bex Simon bought one of the paintings of Rufus' wife Alison. However, Bex was Lily's art dealer; Lily returned the painting to Rufus after she found out that it was Alison who did the painting.
Dan confronted Serena after her encounter with Blair; she told him that it was Eleanor that told forced her to do it, and she didn't know that Blair was excluded. Dan then talked to Blair and told what Serena said, plus his family situation where his mother hadn't came back from her "summer break" from the Hudson.
Nate found out that he was being conned by Carter and was furious; Chuck arrived, rescued Nate and paid his losses after he saw the ball of Babe Ruth's called shot and his wristwatch missing from his suite. Later, as Nate was about to pay back Chuck, he found his trust account zeroed out; when he asked the bank about this, the teller said his father drained the account weeks ago.
Dan then met up with Serena and he then proposed another date in which Serena obliged. Blair then arrived and the two girls made up. Blair and Serena stole Eleanor's clothes then cheerfully did their own photoshoot around the city.

The episode title is a play on the phrase "daredevil."
Plot
[edit]While Nate and Chuck were fixing up the Archibald family yacht, Blair has her focus on holding her annual sleepover. However, Serena can't go since she has already committed with Dan. She even asked Jenny on what to wear on their date with the younger Humphrey advising her to wear casual clothing. With Serena not going, Blair picked Jenny to go instead, hatching up a plan to test her. Meanwhile, Lily held off Eric's release from the Ostroff Center, much to his disappointment. In Brooklyn, Dan advised his father to call his wife first instead of going upstate to deliver the check.
Serena, wearing t-shirt and jeans, had to change clothing when she saw Dan wearing a coat and tie for their date. Before they left she found out from Lily that Eric won't be staying for the night. The date was a rocky affair in which Dan and Serena felt uncomfortable eating at a fancy restaurant. After finding out that Serena paid their meal, Dan realized that this wasn't the date she wanted so they left the restaurant and takes her to a pool bar. In the sleepover, Jenny had an intense game of truth or dare in which Blair told her to jailbreak Eric (who had texted her, with Blair seeing it first). At the art gallery, the phone was answered by Alexander Bancroft, who introduces himself as Alison's "friend". When it was Alison's turn to speak, Rufus hangs up the phone.
Blair and Jenny successfully jailbreak Eric and went to a bar; the attending nurse then informed Lily that her son was taken by "blonde, young and beautiful" girl. Thinking Serena took out Eric, she called her phone only to find out that she left her phone at home. She then calls Rufus to ask for Dan's number but he was uncooperative. At the pool bar, Dan beat Serena at a game and was on his way of teaching her the intricacies of pool when Rufus called to ask about Eric. The pair then had to suspend their activity and instead headed into the bar when Blair and her company were.
Lily arrives as the Humphrey apartment where Rufus tells her that Dan and Serena were on their way to fetch Eric. She decided to stay there and prepare a meal until their children reach Eric. While cooking, she revealed to him that Eric is staying at the Ostroff Center due to his attempted suicide. At the bar, it was Blair's turn to play so Jenny dared her to make out with a guy. After doing the deed, Blair told her to call the guy's girlfriend.
When Dan and Serena reached the bar, the guy's girlfriend, Jenny and Blair were having a commotion. Dan joined the commotion after finding out what Jenny did. They were eventually thrown out of the bar, along with Eric. Dan accompanied Eric and Serena back to the center but not before admonishing Jenny on what she did earlier. Blair and the gang then setup Jenny for one final dare - to steal a jacket from Eleanor's store. When Jenny was inside the store, Blair and company ran away as the door was locked from outside. She was interrogated by police but due to her cunning, she evaded arrest. Meanwhile, Alison called Rufus but Lily answered the phone; when it was Rufus' turn to speak Alison hung up. Lily eventually left after Dan and Serena found Eric; she went to the Center to inform to Eric that he'd be released from the center, much to his delight.
Jenny came back to the Waldorf penthouse wearing the jacket where she informed Blair that she'll sleep on her home instead of at the sleepover. Meanwhile, Dan and Serena finally shared a long and passionate kiss to end their date.

The episode recounts the masquerade ball hosted by Blair Waldorf, in which Nate Archibald unintentionally reveals to Jenny Humphrey that he is "not yet over" Serena van der Woodsen. Dan Humphrey's old friend Vanessa Abrams makes her first appearance in the series and causes tension on his relationship with Serena.
Plot
[edit]Jenny becomes Blair's modern-day "handmaiden", as preparation for Blair's masquerade ball that night; she receives a bracelet as a loan from the Blair's jeweler thinking she'd be a part of the ball. Meanwhile, Dan's childhood friend Vanessa arrives from Vermont as she'll stay at the city "for good". Serena called him to ask him out for the ball but Serena heard Vanessa's voice on the line. Asking who she was, Dan told her it's Jenny, just when his sister arrived at Blair's room. Spotting a lie, Serena stopped herself from asking Dan and told Blair she won't have a date. Blair herself has plans for her and Nate at the ball, in which she'd give herself to him if he finishes her scavenger hunt game, with Serena giving out the last clue.
While strolling around the city, Vanessa asks about Dan's awkwardness. He tells her that several things changed while she's away and invites her to a movie to talk about it. At the Waldorf Penthouse, Eleanor was readying the penthouse for the party to announce her company going public. Meanwhile, Nate discovers cocaine and concludes it is his dad's. Asking for advice, he calls Blair but she is busy getting ready for ball. He reckons to go to Serena instead. Jenny is done with her tasks but she gets devastated when Blair told her that freshmen can't attend the ball, but not before the Waldorf saw her bracelet. Kati and Isabel find Serena a new date -- a lacrosse player from Newport, Rhode Island.
While getting ready for his date with Vanessa, Dan finds out through the Gossip Girl website that Serena's friends were looking for her date at the ball. Just when Rufus is getting ready for his "date" with Lily, Vanessa arrives in which they discuss about Rufus' marriage and Dan. After Dan rents a tuxedo, he calls Vanessa that their date is cancelled. Jenny arrives and tells Vanessa about the ball she won't be able to attend. Vanessa tells her to go and helps her gatecrash the party.
On the ball itself, Dan manages to enter taking an identity of a drunk boy outside; Jenny enters via the backdoor. She recognized Chuck and hatches a plan to revenge what happened on the Kiss on the Lips party - a treasure hunt, but instead of treasure, Jenny orders Chuck to use his clothes instead. On Eleanor's party, Rufus noticed that he was brought by Lily in order to make Bart Bass jealous. Eleanor and the Captain were talking about Eleanor's line when Anne changed the subject about Nate and Blair, saying Nate should give to Blair her great-grandmother's ring that was given by Cornelius Vanderbilt. While Lily was continuing on spying Bart, Rufus kissed her out of nowhere, while Bart was watching.
Back at the ball, Kati and Isabel found a very confused Nate and told him the Serena has the last clue. Dan finally found Serena and explained the events that morning. The two reconciled with a kiss but they were seen by Vanessa, who returned to give Jenny the keys to her apartment. He told Vanessa that he loved her but he loved Serena now. Vanessa ran away and he pursued her, leaving Serena alone. Failing to find her outside, he returned to talk to Serena. Rufus apologized for the kiss and told Lily that Bart may not love her in the future. Seeing his work is done, he left just as Lily and Bart reconciled.
Jenny locked Chuck at the rooftop as she collected his clothes. Going to the ladies' room to throw away his clothes, she was encountered by Serena who then told her about her, Dan and Vanessa. She told her that the fact that Dan went to the ball is enough reason to believe that he loves her. Heeding her advice, they exchange masks. Nate saw Jenny going out, and thinking she is Serena, he tells her that he still loves her and kisses her. Jenny ran away but was tagged by Blair, who managed to grab her bracelet, which leads her to know that the younger Humphrey gatecrashed her party. Nate then saw Serena and she informed him of Blair's appearance so he can find her already. Just as Jenny was leaving, Dan pleaded with her (thinking she's Serena) to stop but she continued running.
Chuck eventually got out of the rooftop holding Jenny's bracelet together with Blair and Nate. Nate wanted to apologize to Blair for not finding her but a pissed Blair went away. Serena finds Dan outside and after figuring out the mistaken-identity event, made up and shared a passionate kiss. Nate comes home to learn that Eleanor accepted The Captain's proposal, but Anne informs her of the cocaine and blames him for it. At Brooklyn, the Humphrey siblings relate what happened to the party they weren't supposed to attend. The episode ends with Dan opening up with Vanessa about Serena and her friends.

Plot
[edit]Chuck watches an then-unidentified woman performing a burlesque number center-stage at the Victrola club, in which Chuck fails to identify. The story then flashbacks two days before that.
Blair expresses admiration to Chuck who plans to ask his father Bart to invest in the Victrola burlesque club, he invites her to a party at the club. Meanwhile, the Captain assures that Nate won't go into rehab and would kick his cocaine habit.
At the Humphrey apartment, Jenny is desperate to find her missing bracelet or else she would have to pay it back. Back at Constance Billard, Dan and Serena were seen making out publicly, and they made plans to give themselves to each other. Nate finds Jenny at the Constance Billard hall and confronts her about revealing to her his feelings to Serena; attempting to bribe her with chocolates, Blair shows up and he gives the chocolates instead to Blair. Jenny attempted to walk away but was confronted herself by Blair, showing her the missing bracelet.
As Chuck was going to propose his "business proposal" to Bart, he spots him and Lily in an intimate moment; after Lily leaves, Bart agrees to see the place if it is worth investing at. Back at Constance Billard, Blair and Serena had a girl talk in which Blair asks Serena about her relationship with Dan, Serena told her that they haven't made plans on doing "it", preferring to go with the flow.
While Dan was dreaming about doing it with Serena, and with Kati and Isabel giving them failing scores for their deed, he was disturbed by Rufus yelling to the phone talking to Alison. The Humphreys discuss their mother's infidelity just as Jenny arrived from school, leaving her out of the loop.
At Victrola, Bart catches Chuck on top of a woman and expresses disdain and leaves Chuck disappointed. Chuck follows him and saw him riding with an Asian woman inside his limousine. Chuck drank the entire night away and went home the morning after when he was encountered by Lily. After slipping the limo incident to her, she leaves Chuck unsurprised. Meanwhile, Eleanor recounts to Blair that Anne would hand over her ring to Nate for him to give it to her. Blair feels ecstatic at the news. Nate himself discovers the Captain was still buying cocaine from a dealer.
During the same morning, Serena and Dan were making out when Vanessa stepped in from the fire exit, forcing them to stop. After Dan escorts Vanessa out of the apartment, and as he was continuing making out with Serena, arrives Rufus with breakfast, indefinitely postponing their session.
Nate confronts Anne about the Captain's cocaine addiction but defers doing any action since the dinner between Eleanor and the Captain's business will occur later that night. Back at Brooklyn, Vanessa catches Dan watching the art film I Am Curious (Yellow). Sensing Dan's plans for that night, she advises of him what to do later as she leaves the room.
Blair pays off Jenny's bracelet much to Little J's relief; she promised her not to double-cross her again. Blair then reveals to Jenny about the ring Nate is "planning" to give her but due to Blair's insistence, she reveals herself what Nate told her at the masked ball. Blair orders her to leave, exasperated. During the dinner, Blair asks Nate if he has something to say to her, and she was disappointed when he answers there was none.
Dan is again dreaming, this time during the Shepherd's weeding in which Serena and Nate had sex, in which he asks the couple for tips. The arrival of Rufus wakes Dan up, and seeing his laptop was on a web page emblazoned with "sensual massage", the father asks his son if he would be doing "it" with Serena tonight; with an affirmative answer, Rufus tells him to practice safe sex while he would be fixing the art gallery with Jenny and Vanessa. Meanwhile, Jenny and Vanessa were discussing about Blair and Nate's relationship, and finding parallels to Rufus and Alison's relationship, Jenny heeds Vanessa discussion of having open communication.
The Captain was obviously agitated during the dinner in which he virtually ordered Anne to give Blair the ring. Sensing this, Nate requested him to "smoke cigars" outside. The father and son had a commotion outside when a police car was across the street saw them. Nate asked the policemen to check his father's pockets as he walked away. Blair saw the commotion as police arrested the Captain for illegal possession of drugs.
Bart arrived at Victrola and introduced the Asian woman as Pauletta Cho, a New York Observer reporter; the three inspected the club but Chuck told Bart that he told Lily that slipped seeing him and Pauletta and the limo; Bart then found the reason why Lily wasn't returning his calls and left the place.
Blair confronts Nate about what happened earlier and asked him about his feelings for Serena; unable to answer, Blair heads off to Victrola alone, breaking up with him. At Victrola, a tipsy Blair dared Chuck to let her do "the moves". Chuck obliges and Blair was on center stage doing a burlesque routine (this is now the moment where the flashback ends).
With Vanessa and Jenny gone, Lily arrives at the art gallery. Rufus asks her if "she has broken up with Bart", and after apologizing for the question, they share the night together. Dan and Serena on the other hand, held off having sex but still slept together. Nate returns home and finds out that the Captain's bail was set a million dollars after charges of fraud and embezzlement were included. Jenny travels up the Hudson to ask her mom to come home.
Blair and Chuck, both still tipsy, made out at the back of his limo, in which their secret affair begins.

Vanessa and Serena had an intense game of Guitar Hero in which Serena won. However Vanessa asked her about Dan's mother but Dan still hasn't told her yet. Disappointed, Dan followed Serena as she left to tell her that he'd give her his family's story on their next date. Relieved, the couple returned to the party to get ready for Blair's blowing of the candles by midnight.
Nate revealed to Jenny the Vanderbilt ring he'd should give to Blair that night but was having second thoughts since it was his family was pressuring him to get back with Blair. Blair received Gossip Girl's text message to find out the reason why Nate failed to attend. Just as her friends fetched the birthday cake, Blair announced that she and Nate had broken up. Serena tried to help Blair but she went to her room anyway.
Nate arrived at the Archibald home and informed his parents that he didn't give the ring to Blair and that they've broken up. Meanwhile Jenny arrived at their home seeing the parent happily snugging much to her delight. Serena and Vanessa talked to each other in which they explained to each other on their overprotection on Dan, with Serena saying she is overprotective on their relationship, while Vanessa is overprotective on Dan generally. Remarking on her "superior Guitar Hero skills", Vanessa proposed a rematch on the next party in which the two girls shared a light moment. Dan felt relieved to see the girls being comfortable with each other and fetched Vanessa home as Serena stayed to comfort Blair.
Chuck gave to Blair the necklace that she reserved earlier much to her delight. Feeling relieved, she let her defenses down as the two of them shared the night together, but not before Serena saw them.

It premiered on both the CW and CTV on January 2, 2008, the first time where the American airing occurred in the same day as the Canadian airing (CTV usually airs the episode a day earlier).
The episode recounts the events in which Bart Bass proposed to marry Lily van der Woodsen, and the events in the Constance Billard/St. Jude's pool in which one student had an accident, and Serena van der Woodsen was the culprit.
Plot
[edit]Serena called Dan to come to the school pool in which an impromptu party was being held; Dan tagged along Vanessa, who was taping Dan as part of her documentary film about elite high schools. Blair confronted Chuck, who had just returned from Monaco to stop blackmailing her against Nate, Chuck replied that once he can stand the sight of the two of them together will he stop. However, when Dan arrived at the pool, a student had a freak accident in which he nearly drowned; everyone ditched the scene as Serena called 9-1-1. While everyone was living, Chuck obtained himself a key.
Two days after, the new Constance Billard headmistress faced the entire junior class as a cellphone was left which shown the pictures of those that participated in the party. Serena, Dan, Nate, Blair and Chuck all agreed to keep quiet. Meanwhile, Vanessa shown Dan the taped scene where Chuck picked up the key as they were on the way to the Waldorf Penthouse to plan their next moves.
In the art gallery, Lily visited Rufus who informs him that Bart would propose marriage to her soon.
In the Penthouse, Chuck was caught brandishing the key by Blair who immediately seized it. Dan confronted Chuck but the latter said "the situation is different," since he can still transfer to another school of the same caliber while Dan would have difficulty to find another school of St. Jude's standing. Upstairs, Nate confronts Blair on why is she awkward to him, handing her a love letter. When Blair left her room, he gets the key and assumes that the key belongs to her.
Blair confronts Chuck on when he'd end his blackmailing, while they were discussing their affair, Chuck spots Vanessa taping them. As Chuck was about to confront Vanessa, Dan comes to her rescue and they leave the building.
Rufus arrives at the van der Woodsen suite to talk to Lily about their relationship but Lily says that their relationship is over, and the she has outgrown that phase of her life.
Facing the headmistress, Nate admits that he is the one that instigated the party, but the headmistress isn't convinced since he can't tell her how he entered the pool even if Nate produced the key - the headmistress then produced a photo in which the key had a ribbon around it - and Nate can't tell where it is. On their meeting with the juniors, Nate was suspended from school.
While Bart and Lily were having a Date, she calls Rufus while Bart is away and they agree to meet later that night.
After Blair unsuccessfully bribes Vanessa on not releasing the film, Chuck bribes Vanessa with USD10,000 in which Vanessa accepts as she hands over to Chuck a tape. Serena, on the other hand, finally admits to Dan that she was the one behind the party, and that the key came from the swimming captain she dated before.
Serena goes home and notices her mother packing things; sensing that Lily is reviving her relationship with Rufus, she pleads to her to not to continue since "she'd rather have Chuck as a stepbrother rather than Dan". Serena went back to school and finds the headmistress questioning Dan. She admits her fault and was astonished to find she'd only serve community service and not face expulsion.
Vanessa visits the Waldorf Penthouse and hands over the tape to Blair; the tape he gave to Chuck was a blank one. Not wanting to have debt of gratitude to Vanessa, she pays off Vanessa rent for a year, informing her that she can "continue on disliking her." Meanwhile, Blair and Nate got back together as they pledge to forget about recent events.
Later that night the van der Woodsens and the Basses had dinner in which Bart professed his feelings for Lily. Before that, Lily ended her relationship with Rufus. Bart told Serena that he bribed the headmistress in order for her not to be expelled. She went to the Humphrey apartment as things were getting suffocating for her. She found Rufus disposing his Lincoln Hawk stuff, specifically those associated with Lily as she adjoins Dan in his room to study.
