Arachankulangara Nair
[edit]Arachankulangara Nair also known as Arassankulangara Nair(Arasan means the King) or Achankulangara Nair or Arayankulangara Nair was said to be a minister in the court of King Kolathiri.[1],[2].His name was Maaveli.[3].He embraced islam and became Mammali.He was in an affair with the princess of Chirakkal named Shreedevi.Later the princess was given in marriage to the Arachan kulangara Nair alias Mammali(Maaveli) by the King of Chirakkal.Also the newly wed ones were gifted some portion of the country based the then Kannur city. The princess later known as Arakkal Beevi[4] and followed Nair matrliniel system of inhertance and their children as Mammali Kidangal[5]
Ranni Karthavu
[edit]The old rulers of Ranni were known as Ranni Karthavu / Ranni Karthakkal/ Ranni Kartha. The royal title is Shakti Vikramar. They were closely related to the Thekkumkur dynasty. The Koikkal palace of the Ranni Kartha was located at Arikkal. The Erumeli Sri Dharmasastha temple was under their control.
Manavikraman was famous Ranni Kartha ruler . Major Rani Ramapuram Mahavishnu Temple is a temple located on the banks of the Pampa River near the Ranni Perumpuzha bus stand, facing west. If the view is to the east of Aranmula, the view here is to the west. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is made of three feet long black stone. The temple is also under the jurisdiction of the Travancore Devaswom Board. For the development, cultivation and trade of the region, the Ranni Karthas brought Knanaya Christians and Rawtars from other regions and Vellalars from the Pandya land.
