Seibuen Amusement Park is an amusement park located in Tokorozawa, Saitama. Just in front of the main gate is the city border of Saitama Prefecture and Tokyo, with part of the parking lot belonging to Higashimurayama (Tokyo Eastern Mountain Village). The amusement park is part of the Seibu management Group along with Seibu Railway. Part of the park is designed after the Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise park, also of the Seibu Group.
Fireworks displays are held every Saturday and Sunday during summer vacation. (Typically the month of August.) In November 2010, the community unanimously annexed the site managed by Seibu Railways, including Seibuen Amusement Park, it is now under the umbrella of Tokorzozawa Seibu Ahha Forest.
History
[edit]In October 1947, the Hasunuma Gate Third Cultivation Orchestra acquired a civil dojo. At this time the Higashimurayama stop of the Seibu Murayama train line was not in service and in order to transport construction materials the train line resumed operation on April 1st, 1948, between Murayama reservoir. On January 25th, 1950, the park was opened as Higashimurayama Culture Garden, and was later renamed to Seibuen on September 16, 1951. The prevailing reasoning for this renaming is that it was in association with the completion of the UNESCO village in the neighboring area.
In order to compete with Tokyo Disneyland (which had opened in 1983), almost the entire park was renovated and updated in 1985. Further updates since then include, Hello Kitty Fairy Tale Town, an attraction opened in partnership with Sanrio on July 17th, 2004. In addition, the park has implemented an illumination festival during the winters since 2010.
Since 1988, the winter skating rink was a yearly attraction, however it was decided that this attraction would be converted into the Kingdom of Snow in 2013, in response to aging equipment and declining attendance.
