Filtisac or Filatures, Tissages, Sacs - Côte d'Ivoire is an Ivorian company in the textile sector[1]. Since 1965, it has manufactured natural fiber bags for Industrial Promotion Services (IPS). Launched in 1965 to accompany the growth in exportations of coffee-cacao in Côte d'Ivoire. This manufacturing unit allowed Filtisac to access various African and European markets.
History
[edit]The entreprise, founded August, 4 1965 by the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development, its main shareholder[2], and inaugurated March, 16 1967 in the presence of President Houphouët-Boigny and his wife, Prince Agha khan, tous les membres du gouvernement, et de nombreuses personnalités ivoiriennes qu'accompagnait le corps diplomatique au grand complet}}. At the start, the business had an annual production of from 6 to 8 million bahs depending entirely on raw imported jute[3]. Its main supplier was Bangladesh[4].
In 1988, Filtisac diversified with the creation of a synthetic-fibre packaging manufacturing unit, intended to cover the packaging needs of products such as cotton, rice, fertilizer, la minoterie[2]. A la fin de l'année 2015, Filtisac détient 30 % des parts de marché des sacs en fibres synthétiques en Côte d'Ivoire[5]. In 2016, the company has about 1,300 employees across its eleven subsidiaries in five west-african countries : Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal and Cameroon[6].
