Snowblind Friend ... Snowblind Friend is a song written in 1969 by Hoyt Axton, and made popular by the rock group Steppenwolf in 1970. The word "snow" refers to cocaine, and the lyrics refer to a guitar player who was a mutual friend of both Hoyt Axton and John Kay, lead singer of Steppenwolf. According to Kay, the unnamed friend had two loves, music and drugs, and ended up in an insane asylum as a result of his drug use. The song was very popular, and appeared on the album Steppenwolf 7, released in 1970.
