Robert Downey Jr

[edit]

Robert Downey Jr was born during the Civil Rights Movement, in Manhattan New York on April 4, 1965. At the age of 5, Downey was cast in his first movie ever. He played the role of Puppy in his father's movie, Pound. During his childhood, Downey was surrounded by drugs, with his father being an addict and his mother an alcoholic. He was introduced to drugs and many inappropriate substances while still in elementary school. Downey's parents divorced when he was just 13 making it harder for him to have a normal childhood. In 1982, Downey dropped out of high school to pursue acting at the age of 16. When he was 34 Downey was charged with drug possession. He was sent to the North Kern State Prison in Delano. There he worked five days a week in the prison kitchen. making 8 cents an hour. Spending 3 years of his life in jail and 2 years in rehab. Downey was married to his first wife Deborah Falconer, whom he had a child with. He and his now ex-wife have shared custody over their son Indio Falconer Downey. Due to some struggling with drug addictions Downey and Deborah ended their relationship. Later in 2005, he married Susan Downey. They had Avri their daughter and Exton their son. Robert Downey Jr is most famously known for playing Iron Man in the Marvel films from two thousand eight to two thousand nineteen. Downey was not only an actor he was also a producer, making around seventy-five movies so far. You may have heard of the quote “I love you 3000” These words are from the famous Robert Downey Jr. also known as Iron Man, in the movie Avengers Endgame. Showing Morgan (his daughter in the films) how much he loves her. He shows that same love off-screen to his daughter Avri.

In the Oscars award ceremony, Robert Downey jr won the Best Supporting Actor award. He starts his speech off by saying these words “I would like to thank my terrible childhood.” To me, that sounds like he did not want his childhood to harm his outcome but rather a positive one.

Downey’s past had a great effect on his future. For example, being sent to jail does not help you get a job. Downey successfully turned his life around after being released from prison. Downey spent time trying to work on his sober life and recover from his past. All though there are many biographies about Downey he has not written any by himself. People like Robert Downey jr for his creativity and his humor. Not only is Downey funny on screen playing his role he is also funny off screen making everyone laugh. Playing Tony Stark Downey is arguably the most funny acter on the set. The biggest failure setback that Downey experienced was Jail time, or at least that's what we think. Downey admits that for years of his life, he was chasing the thought of being happy but all that time he was unhappy leading to the years being wasted. Here is what he said “I used to be so convinced that happiness was the goal, yet all those years I was chasing after it I was unhappy in the pursuit. Maybe the goal really should be a life that values honor, duty, good work, friends, and family.” Luke 8:4-8 says “4 As a large crowd was gathering, and people were coming to Jesus from every town, he said in a parable, 5 “A sower went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some seed fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the sky devoured it. 6 Other seed fell on the rock; when it grew up, it withered away, since it lacked moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns; the thorns grew up with it and choked it. 8 Still other seed fell on good ground; when it grew up, it produced fruit: a hundred times what was sown.” As he said this, he called out, “Let anyone who has ears to hear listen.” ” This verse can tie into Downey Jr’s life because when he was a kid he was raised in a very bad house leading to his downfall when he was sent to jail. Just like the good seed fell on the thorns and was choked, Downey could have grown up to be a good bright kid but his parents were bad influences and encouraged him to join in on their bad behavior teaching him to grow up with drugs and alcohol. With this toxic background, he was sent to jail for his actions. Coming out of jail he turned his life around and became the good seed helping other children in need. Downey spends lots of his free time donating to charities and hospitals for kids with special needs and sicknesses. The time he is putting into this is helping the kids grow up to be bright and happy. Jesus put lots of his time into healing people and preaching the word. In Mathew 15:21-28 “21 When Jesus left there, he withdrew to the area of Tyre and Sidon. 22 Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came and kept crying out,[m] “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely tormented by a demon.” 23 Jesus did not say a word to her. His disciples approached him and urged him, “Send her away because she’s crying out after us.” 24 He replied, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 But she came, knelt before him, and said, “Lord, help me!” 26 He answered, “It isn’t right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 27 “Yes, Lord,” she said, “yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” 28 Then Jesus replied to her, “Woman, your faith is great. Let it be done for you as you want.” And from that moment[n] her daughter was healed.” in this story Jesus healed the girl without even touching her he used his words and that was it. Downey is helping these kids who are in the hospital bring back their mental health and have hope in their lives. Although these two people helped the ones in need in very different ways they both used only their words. I think that Robert Downey jr is a very kind well-rounded man whose life is on the right track. Although he did come from a bad background he grew up to be a drug dealer. After he came back from jail he worked on himself and turned his life around.
