Brock Davis (multimedia artist)
Brock Davis is an American artist known for work that makes the observer see everyday objects in new ways. He lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota. [1] Fans include Banksy, who invited him to participate in his 2015 Dismaland Show.
Background
[edit]Davis began as an art director in advertising where he won major industry awards on big brand accounts for many years including a Cannes Lion for his work on Harley-Davidson motorcycles[2] and created the hugely popular, decade-long “Messin’ with Sasquatch” campaign for Jack Links.[3]
Work
[edit]His independent artwork built a wider buzz with the launch of “Make Something Cool Every Day” where he created one piece of art daily for 365 straight days and earned extensive Internet attention.[4]The works were shared millions of times and he was profiled and featured on NPR[5], USA Today, Wired[6], Comedy Central, G4 and Boing Boing[7].
Crossing into any media space, one of his works was created inside a video game, creating a 3-D portrait to be viewed by players from a certain perspective. It was highlighted by Wired magazine.[8]
He became a contributing artist to the New York Times[9] Wired, Esquire, Fast Company[10] and O Magazine. His work was also featured on the cover of TIME Magazine’s Special Money Issue.[11]
While continuing his career in advertising as a Group Creative Director, he contributed popular t-shirt designs to the Threadless online store. [12]
Target stores also took note and he began selling his own line of graphic t-shirts nationwide under the label “Brock Davis Design.”[13]
In 2011, his work was featured in a solo exhibition at The California Gallery curated by Creative Electric Studios. [14]
In 2015, Banksy invited him to contribute artwork to his Dismaland exhibit in Weston-super-Mare in Somerset, England.[15]
