This is a list of prospective categories in a categorisation of plant taxa by rank.
- Current scope
- Only flowering plants are addressed.
- Only major ranks are listed.
- Shorthand
- [blank] means a logically impossible category
- "Category:Angiosperm families (300, split)" means would contain about 300 members, so is an appropriate category so long as it can be suitable subcategorised.
- "Category:Angiosperm orders (60, leaf)" means would contain about 60 members, so is an appropriate category for creation, with no need for subcategories
- "Magnoliid orders (4)" means would contain only 4 members, so not an appropriate category for creation/
- "Monocot orders (10, leaf)" means would contain about 10 members, so is an appropriate category for creation, with no need for subcategories; but it would require splitting a higher-level leaf category.
- "Eremosynaceae genera" means not an appropriate category for creation, for some other reason.
- "Category:Asterales families (?)" means I haven't got around to examining this prospective category yet.
- Criteria
Less than 10 members means a category should not be created. 10 or more members is an acceptable category for creation; 100 or more members means the category should be split if possible.
- Progress
- List is complete down to order rank, plus families unplaced at order rank.
- Categorisation is complete down to family level.
- Dealing with genera will require expansion to family level of those orders to be split at genus level. This is complete down to (not including) Caryophyllales.
- Population of genus categories is complete down to (not including) Caryophyllales.
