History
[edit]Established in 1981 as Mineral Industries Computing by Peter Stokes and Stephen Henley, the company was one of the pioneers of 3D computerized resource modelling and estimation tools. The first version of the software called Datamine was released in 1983.[2]
Datamine released its first Studio product in 1995. The Datamine Studio platform is currently on its fourth generation, being used as a common platform for a suite of purpose specific products (e.g. Studio RM is offered for resource estimation and Studio OP is offered for open pit mine planning).
In 2010, CAE Inc. acquired Datamine[3] and renamed the company CAE Mining. In 2010 CAE also acquired Century Systems [4] which became part of CAE Mining with its geological data management system.
In July 2015, Datamine (then CAE Mining) was acquired by Constellation Software, Canada’s largest software company[5] and since the acquisiton operates within the Vela Software division. After the acquisition, Constellation decided to revive the Datamine brand re-naming the company Datamine Software.
Since the acquisition by Constellation, Datamine Software is expanding its offering through the establishment of new partnerships or via merges and acquisitions. Under Constellation, Datamine has acquired DataBlast [6], MapInfo Discover[7], Sundial Technologies (renamed to Datamine OPS), Sable[8], Flairbase[9] and ABB Group's IMS (Intelligent Mining Solutions) division, including MineScape.
