Jonquil is a 6 member band, based in Oxford, UK. They have previously been signed to Try Harder with whom they released two albums, Sunny Casinos (2006) and Lions (2008). They also released an UK Import Only EP, Whistle Low, with the Spanish label Acuarela.
History
[edit]Whilst originally a bedroom recording project of Hugo Manuel's[1] from the remnants of Oxford band The Modern, Jonquil soon expanded to four members; Manuel, Kit Monteith, Jody Prewett and Ben Rimmer. This line-up produced the 2006 album Sunny Casinos, an intriguing album[2] that received many favourable reviews.
With the addition of first Sam Scott and then Robin McDiarmid, Jonquil became able to more accurately reproduce their studio sound live and toured more extensively both in the UK and Europe. Back in the bedroom-studio in 2008, Jonquil's second album, Lions, was a more collaborative affair between the six members.
Jonquil recorded a session at Maida Vale for Radio 1 and Radio Oxford and subsequently played at the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury[3].
Jonquil also collaborated with Youthmovies as Vertical Montanas, producing a 2-track, 7-inch release.
