Dr. James Cass "Jim" Hendee is a Supervisory Physical Scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) in Miami, Florida. He is the Director of the Ocean Chemistry and Ecosystems Division at AOML, and the program manager for NOAA's Coral Health and Monitoring Program (CHAMP), which instituted the very first coral reef-related Web page, the largest listserver dedicated to coral reef research, Coral-List, and the Coral Reef Early Warning System (CREWS) expert system software for ecological forecasting at monitored coral reef areas. Other projects under the CHAMP Program include the Integrated Coral Observing Network (ICON) and the Acidification, Climate, and Coral Reef Ecosystems TEam (ACCRETE) project.

Dr. Hendee also has also been a professional aquaculturist and, in his youth, a herpetologist, a laborer on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, a cab driver, and a drummer. He was born March 30, 1948 in Denver, Colorado and currently (June, 2017) resides in Pompano Beach, Florida.

In July, 2011, Jim published the thriller novel Codon Zero. In early 2012, the book was chosen as a finalist in the Eric Hoffer Award contest. It is available on Amazon.com and Lulu.com
