Photophysics, also referred to as Molecular Photophysics concerns the absorption and emission of electromagnetic radiation that does not subsequently cause a chemical reaction.^[1] The absorption of light by a system which thereby undergoes a chemical reaction is referred to as photochemistry. Aleksander Jabłoński is attributed with having pioneered molecular photophysics. The study of molecular photophysics has applications in fluorescent labeling, laser science and spectroscopy.
