History
[edit]During the Genkō era, Ichijō Uchitsune, the chief adviser to the Emperor, established Fundain. Since then it has been run solely by the Ichijō family.
Structure
[edit]- Drawing room - In 1755 the room burned down, but the empress dowager of Emperor Momozono bequeathed them the gift of the same room from the Imperial Palace. It was restored in 1899.
- Zunantei - This teahouse was rebuilt in 1969 as part of the 300-year memorial of Ichijō Akiyoshi. A washbasin and stone lantern attributed to Yukari Keikan was discovered in the bare earth underneath.
- Chinese-style gate
Garden
[edit]It is said that Sesshu, who is known as a master painter, created the rock garden, though it was destroyed by fires during the Genroku and Houreki period, but was restored by Mirei Shigemori in 1937.
