[edit]- In the history section, more can be added by discussing how new legal and technological frameworks enabled online petition and activism.
- For instance, the Computer Security Act of 1987 required that National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) develop a new national standard for computer encryption. Such developments increased participation in online petition due to enhanced cybersecurity.
