Rodellar is a Spanish village in the province of Huesca, Aragon. It is part of the municipality of Bierge. Rodellar is a major rock climbing area with more than 800 routes set in the limestone walls of the nearby valleys and gorges.

Geography

[edit]

Rodellar is located in the Sierra de Guara, a mountain massif with many limestone canyons and caves. The river Mascún flows west of the village. The river may dry up completely in dry periods.[1] It flows into the river Alcanadre about one kilometre south of Rodellar. The village is about 58 kilometres north-east of Huesca. Rodellar can be reached via the road HU 341.

Rodellar offers central access to several valleys and gorges: Mascún, the middle valley; Alcanadre, the southern valley and Andrebot, the northern valley.

Rock climbing

There are more than 800 routes set in overhanging caves, arches, roofs, tufas and pinnacles. The rock in the valleys around Rodellar are mostly limestone with good conditions for climbing. The many canyons and gorges carved by the rivers in the mountain range Sierra de Guara make it also an attractive location for Canyoneering. The village has a camping ground and a hotel.

The Mascún river gorge provides most of the climbing routes near Rodellar.

The crag El Camina provides a variety of shorter routes with lower grades, which are often used for warming up.
