Harvey Barfarkle: Pen name for Edward Scott Umlauf, D.O. Born October 18, 1952, in Canton, Ohio. Parents: John Umlauf and Edith M. Umlauf. The family moved to West Virginia when he was an infant. He graduated from Magnolia High School in New Martinsville, WV., in 1970 and attended Marshall University. Marshall suffered a plane crash in his freshman year losing their entire football team. Edward transferred to West Virginia University after his junior year and graduated in 1976 with a B.A. in Biology.

Edward worked as a assistant ceramic engineer, a plant manager for a small pottery, an insurance salesman, an instructor in risk management at Walsh College and a pharmaceutical representative for Merck, Sharpe & Dohme until 1984.

Medical Career: In 1984, Edward attended Medical School at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree in 1988 and served an Internal Medicine Residency in Youngstown, Ohio. Dr. Umlauf has practiced as a primary care internist for 20 years, then as a hospitalist for 10 years, where he served as Chairperson of Hospital Medicine for 2 years and director of the Observation Unit in Zanesville, Ohio. Dr. Umlauf is a 32 degree Mason and a Knights Templar and served on the Board of Directors of the School For Dyslexia for 2 years. He was licensed in Colorado, Kansas, Ohio and Georgia. He retired in February, 2019 to Savannah, GA. During his medical career, he served as an Assistant Professor of Hospital Medicine at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, Clinical Professor of Medicine at Marietta College for Physician Assistants and received The National Republican Congressional Committee National Leadership Award as the Honorary Co-Chairman of The Physicians' Advisory Board. Dr. Umlauf is also listed in "Who's Who" in America.

Family: Parents: John Umlauf and Edith M. Umlauf, nee Tillis. Married Judith Ellis February 27, 1973, div. 1993. Two children, Erich and Philipp. Married Stacy Conger, nee Riley in October, 1993, div. 1996. Married Pamella J. Guest, nee Gross April 4, 2003 in Antigua.

Dr. Umlauf is also a published poet having been published in SOMA Journal and Maelstrom Literary Magazine.
