Old Hughenden Court House is a former court house in the town of Hughenden in North Queensland, Australia. [1]
The Old Hughenden Court House was established to contain the Court House and the Police Station. The building was established around 1884 and was occupied by one Senior Constable, two Constables and two Native Police. There was no resident Magistrate for Hughenden, so the Charters Towers Magistrate visited every five to six weeks. In absence of the magistrate,the Court was conducted by two Justices of the Peace in the present of Clerk of Petty Sessions Mr T.Green.
The Hughenden Police Station first being about 1881 it was then part ot Townsville Police Station division. About 1905 it was declared a Police District headquarters and the following towns were under it,s control Diamantina, Kynuna, Perciville, Richmond, Torrens Creek, Winton,& Woolgar having 21 members of all ranks.It remained the headquarters till about 1921 then it went under the control of Townsville Police District . Around 1878 the first Police Magistrate Mr R.C.Uhr held first Cort of Petty Session & he recommened that his headquarters to be established in Hughenden because of the fine pastoral land in the region .
