I was born on the air force base of Kadena in Okinawa, Japan. The first eight years of my life were spent on this island, reeking havoc only a young child would know how to do. I lived in an apartment complex for most of my time in Okinawa and in the back yard was a giant hill. My friend and I would take sides to large cardboard boxes and create sleds out of them to slide down the hill. These memories are among my favorite from my childhood. When I was eight, I moved to the United States and quickly learned what it meant to be cold. Snow was something that I had never known existed before moving to the United States. My love for sledding down hills on a cardboard box ironically turned to a nightmare when I attempted to use a sled for the first time.
