StayWoke America
Woke is defined by the status of awareness that a person or entity has about a specific or multiple issue. Stay Woke is slang term originated by Black Americans to punctuate a state of affairs or issue that has or is currently causing harm to Black Americans. Once you are made aware of an issue and how it is impacting yourself or ethnicity and culture you are being called to action. Stay Woke is a call to action to make a change for the betterment of a woke issue. To “StayWoke” is to be a person who is aware and is making a change for the better for all ethnicity and cultures. To ignore other issues and plights make you “Not Woke”
Differences between StayWoke & Stay Woke- StayWoke is a modern day term that originated from the 1988 School Daze movie directed by Spike Lee. During the end of the movie a message of "Wake Up" was said by all of the main characters of the movie. Wake up was 90's call to Black and Latin issues that are specific to their ethnicity and culture. From the 90's to the 00s the slang version was born "StayWoke. During the 10s the term was appropriated by politics into Stay Woke. Stay Woke with a space in between became a liberal term for social injustice and awareness.
