Vladimir Gennadyevich Romanyuk (Russian: Владимир Геннадьевич Романюк) is a Russian astronomer and programmer from Saint Petersburg, Russia. He is best known as the author and programmer of the game engine and 3D astronomy software SpaceEngine. Vladimir's fondness of programming began in high school, and he taught it to himself as a hobby. He began work on SpaceEngine, his first OpenGL application, in 2005, and has continued to develop it in his free time ever since. He graduated from Saint Petersburg State University in 2008, majoring in Astrophysics and radio astronomy. His field of specialty is cosmology. Vladimir worked at the St. Petersburg branch of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Science before transitioning to full-time development of SpaceEngine.[1]
