Belekeri is a village in Ankola, Karnataka, India, and is known for its port ,beaches and fishing activities.It is approximately 6 km from Ankola. Its industrial port was used for shipping iron ore and manganese to various destinations. The port came to a wide media attention due to Belekeri port scam because of which it came under CBI scanner.
History
[edit]Historically, the port was used by the British. The village has an ancient historical significance as it houses an inscription which is more than 500 years old.[1] It has Jainabeera temple, which is of a great of historical value.

Belekeri Port
[edit]The port is suitable for moderate weather.If proper improvements are brought about,it can greatly increase its capacity[2] Government of Karnataka has planned to improve it under Public-Private partnership.[3] Justice Santosh Hegde ,the then Lokayukta of Karnataka ,is also reported to have expressed his concerns over the illegal activities. [4]

Beach
[edit]Grassy lawns are a common sight.The sunsets are peasing.The place has mountains visible to the eye-view.The place is not far from other tourist attractions like Gokarna[7] The nearest railway station to Belekeri is the Ankola railway station,which is about 11km from it.
