The Keibul Lamjao Conservation Area , consisting of the KLNP , and a buffer of Loktak Lake (often called "Meitei lake") & Pumlenpat , is nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage Site in "Mixed" category in 2016, for having cultural importance to the Meitei people since time immemorial.
