The 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix (officially known as the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2024) is a Formula One motor race held set to be held on 13 September 2024 at the Baku City Circuit in Baku, Azerbaijan. It is set to be the seventeenth round of the 2024 Formula One World Championship.
Background
[edit]The event is set to be held across the weekend of 13–15 September 2024,[1] is set to be the 17th round of the 2024 Formula One World Championship, and the eighth running of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix as a round of the Formula One World Championship.
Championship standings before the race
[edit]Max Verstappen enters the round leading the Drivers' Championship with 303 points, 62 points ahead of Lando Norris in second, and a further 86 points ahead of Charles Leclerc in third.[2] Red Bull Racing enters the round leading the Constructors' Championship with 446 points, 8 points ahead of McLaren in second, and a further 39 points ahead of Ferrari in third. Entrants
[edit]The drivers and teams are the same as the season entry list with the exception of Haas driver Kevin Magnussen, who was given a one-race ban after a collision with Pierre Gasly as the previous round, the Italian Grand Prix, earned him 12 penalty points in his Super License; as well as Franco Colapinto, who replaced Logan Sargeant at Williams as of the same Grand Prix.
Tyre choices
[edit]Tyre supplier Pirelli brought the C3, C4, and C5 tyre compounds (the three softest in their range) designated hard, medium, and soft, respectively, for teams to use at this event.[4]
Practice
[edit]Three free practice sessions are set to be held at the event. The first two free practice sessions are set to be held on 13 September at 13:30 and 17:00 local time (UTC+4), respectively, while the third free practice session is set to be held the following day at 12:30 local time (UTC+4).[1]
Qualifying
[edit]Qualifying is set to be held on 14 September 2024, at 16:00 local time (UTC+4)[1]
