The 2010–2011 season was Sutton United's third year in the Isthmian League Premier Division and covers the period from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011.
The Gander Green Lane ground , home of Sutton United
Sutton were relegated from the Conference South during its 2007–08 season. They finished with 24 points,[ 1] which was then the lowest points total in the league's history. Their season still jointly holds the record for the fewest wins in a season, with 5.[ 1] They joined the Isthmian League Premier Division .
Former Eastleigh assistant manager Paul Doswell was brought in as manager during the 2008 close-season,[ 2] stating he wanted the club to gain promotion in two seasons.[ 3] [ 2] In the 2008–09 season, the club finished fifth in the league and reached the play–offs . They faced Staines Town away in the semi-final, but lost 3–0.[ 4]
The 2009–10 season was Doswell's second in charge, ending with Sutton second, again gaining entry to the play-offs. This time, the team faced Kingstonian at home. They lost 4–2.[ 5] Despite Doswell failing in his aim to gain promotion in two seasons, he stayed on as manager.[ 3]
In both seasons, Sutton reached the First Round proper of the FA Cup. In the 2008–09 FA Cup , the team played Notts County and lost 1–0.[ 6] In the 2009–10 FA Cup , Sutton played Hereford United away and lost 2–0.[ 7]
In May 2010, Sutton announced that they had signed striker Richard Jolly from Carshalton Athletic .[ 8] Later in the month, it was announced that Craig Dundas, Sam Page and Fola Orilonishe would be signed and that Sonny Cobbs and Francis Quarm would be leaving.[ 9] In addition, it was announced that Kennedy Adjei would be joining the club on a season-long loan from AFC Wimbledon .[ 9]
