[edit]About me
[edit]I'm someone who has lived in the Pacific Northwest my whole life. I have 2 sisters, one older and the other younger making me the middle child. I also have two dogs that happen to be in the top five for the most commonly owned breed in America[1] , which are Golden Retrievers. It doesn't surprise me that many people, like myself, enjoy the company of these well behaved dogs.
My Wikipedia interests
[edit]I am new to Wikipedia and I'm creating this page as a part of an English assignment. If I continue updating my page I would put out information about softball, dogs, and healthy foods and workouts. I've played softball for most my life. I am a catcher, I enjoy being involved in most every play of the game. As I stated above dogs also interest me because I have two of my own. I have always grown up around dogs and enjoy them. Lastly, I would write about healthy foods and working out because it is something I am focusing on.
Article evaluation
[edit]I've always been interested in ways to create a healthy diet, as well as how to look for the healthy foods on the labels. I think it is very important to have reliable information on this subject and with that in mind, I visited the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_energy article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: the age of the article, reliability, as well as the structure of the article.
Age
[edit]This article was mostly up to date with their links connected to other sources from 2020-2021. Three out of four sections have the age of the article up to date, but the fourth section has multiple links connected to a textbook from the year 2006, making it unreliable. The citations in the section under food energy was up to date with links connected to sources that were from 2021. Under Nutrition labels their citations were from 2020 instead of 2021, and under Recommended daily intake there were a couple citations linking to 2020 articles, but mostly 2021. Then the last section labeled energy usage in the human was linked to a source from 2006 making it also a potentially untrustworthy source. From looking at the sections, the reader can see the age of the Food energy article, for the most part, is up to date with resources connected from 2020-2021. The only thing I would change about this Wikipedia source is the last section, I would consider that untrustworthy/unreliable. I would suggest using another source for energy usage in the human body, one that is more up to date.
Reliability
[edit]It can be difficult to know if a Wikipedia source is reliable or not, but I found this source to be very reliable because it did not have a bias. The food energy section is very factual and goes in depth on what is found in certain foods and how they react in your body. This section also had reliable links that back up the information making me trust the information. Another part of this article that was titled Recommended Daily Intake stated facts about how many calories, physical exercise, as well how it adjusts from younger people to older people. That section also has sources linked from national health and medical research, who are reliable. This showed another example of having trustworthy resources linked to this article. There was one section that made me feel it was unreliable, the section energy usage in the human. My reason for thinking it is unreliable is the links sited are mostly from the medical physiology textbook that is from 2006 making it out of date. The first three sections in this article were filled with facts that were linked to up-to-date sources as well as no bias was shown. The last section is the only unreliable part of this article.
Structure
[edit]Lastly the structure of this article was very well put together. I could easily tell when they went onto another section because it was clearly labeled. I also liked how each link went to a reliable resource. The only non-reliable link was the one from 2006 under Energy Usage of the Human Body. I also thought it was well written with very little to no bias in it, only facts stated with links to back them up with.
Summary
[edit]From reading this article I was able to notice the age of the article for the most part was up to date, three of the four sections would be considered reliable, and lastly that the structure was well thought out. I would only recommend updating the sources from a textbook from 2006 to a more current source. Other than that, the article Food Energy is a reliable Wikipedia article.
