[edit]

The main character, Brain, played by Kenny Young, is an apathetic young African American male with no ambition for life. He is married to his Tonya, played by Jill Marie Jones, who in turn, is just the exact same person as her husband. The couple’s relationship is weak and is on the verge of failure and the two seek help fro their tarnished relationship.

In the opening scene of the movie, Brain and Tonya are seen seeking therapy and getting advice on their relationship. The therapist, played by Jenifer Lewis, asks the couple a series of questions and concludes that their problems started before the marriage. The therapist insists that they must make a change in their lives in order for progression of their marriage. The couple is quiet throughout the meeting and answer in a series of head nods. When the therapist asks, “ Do you love each other,” both respond with a single head nod. The therapist tells them that they must find something fun to do and that their marriage will be fine.

After Brian and Tonya meet with the therapist, they find different ways to interact with each other in hopes of having “fun.” They first dance in their living room in hopes of “livening things up.” After they attempt to dance, there plans fail tragically as the wife falls to the ground because she cannot dance. Brian’s next attempt to rejuvenate his marriage comes from reading jokes from a comedy book. Though the jokes might get a laugh from a viewer of the film, Tonya does not neither crack a smile nor laugh. Their final attempt in having “fun” thus resorts to having sex. The following scene does not show the couple actually having sex, but one can assume because sexual noises come from the bedroom. When the camera actually shows the couple, Brain and Tonya are actually watching a pornographic film in hopes of sparking their relationship. After the film is over, the two decide to go to sleep after a night full of wasted energy.

The following day, Brian is scene at work completing tasks such as filing paperwork at his business firm. Next, his boss Mr. Haney, played by Danny Woodburn calls him into the office where is scolded for not working hard. In the scene, Brain is portrayed as “useless and a worthless piece of meat.” While brain is at work, Tonya waits for the babysitter to pick up their son Alfonzo. The babysitter arrives almost an hour late with her boyfriend with a scanty excuse as to why they were late. They take the boy and hurriedly drive away in a dangerous manner. Tonya, like Brian, is also portrayed as a pushover.

Later that night, the couple is having dinner together and is enjoying each other’s company. As they eat dinner, their neighbors Otis, played by Rodney Perry, and Amber, played by Terri Vaughn, interrupt them. The unruly couple barges into Brian and Tonya’s home without notice. Otis punches brain in the stomach as they enter the house. The unruly neighbors eat up Brian and Tonya’s dinner without asking. After the food is eaten up, Otis asks to speak to Brian alone for “man talk.” As the two men leave the room, Amber and Tonya talk about superstition and supernatural powers. Meanwhile, Otis asks for money from Brian and consequently, he is denied the money. After being denied, Otis goes off on a rant speaking of how much he has done for the Brian and his wife. After going off on Brian, Brian gives in and gives him all the money he has in his pockets. Otis promises that he will repay him the money. As the two men are in the other room, Tonya is getting her palm read by Amber. Amber speaks about everything that is going on in the couple’s life including the problems that they face. She talks about Tonya being sad and lonely and the therapy that the couple have been going through. At the end, of the visit, Amber says that “you’ll find what your looking for” to Tonya giving her a sigh of relief.

The next day, Brain is sceen walking to work. While Brian is walking to work, he is scared by a group of hoodlums and is forced to run off. After being chased, Brian finally arrives at work. As he is about to get off from a long day of work at the office, Brain is asked by his boss to work a late night shift. His boss threatens Brian that if he did not stay that he will “be like the bums on skid row.” Brian is forced to stay at the office finishing up unnecessary paperwork. After finishing up at the office, brain is on his way home finally after a long days work. As he heads home, he is rear ended in his car by a thug while waiting at a stop sign. Brian gets out of his car and confronts the thug about the accident at the stop sign. Brain is pushed around for driving “too safe.” The two fight at the stop sign and brain kills the thug accidentally though self defense. When brain gets home, he tells his wife about the altercation and the two get emotional about their future. The two agree not to tell anyone and go back to sleep.

After brain killed the thug at the stop sign, he has a new confidence in himself. His attitude towards life changes and he is not the apathetic individual that he was formerly known as.

The next day, Brian walks past the same group of hoodlums that bothered him before and commands that he is let through unharmed. Brain stares them all down while in the process he intimidates them all. They let him go through untouched and he continues his new way of life. His new attitude now demands respect for the man he really is.

After finding his newfound respect, he tells his wife of the occurrence. He says he feels strong and he feels like anew man after he killed the guy. He tries to convince his wife that his actions were good and that is was for the embitterment for his well-being. He speaks of the necessary assumptions that society has placed upon him including the idea of going to college and finding a job. The character now breaks away from the conformities that are placed upon him and he is now a “free” man. The symbolism in the scene shows that he was once before assimilated into the idea of whiteness. He is an education black man with mild tendencies of being white. After he snapped, he reverted back to the colloquial actions of a stereotyped black man.

The following night their neighbor Otis comes and visits the couple once again. He is continues to act unruly by disrespecting Brian in his own home. Otis asks for money and upsets Brian. Brian goes into the kitchen and gets a knife. Brian then tries to kill Otis in the dining room but is unsuccessful by Otis’ slick personality. Otis then tries to kill Brian but his wife Tonya saves Brian. Tonya hits Otis on his head and kills him. After the couple kills Otis, they take his body up stairs and cut him up with a chainsaw. After the violent incident, the Tonya is now free from her passive mentality. They both find that killing people are exhilarating and decide to kill people that only deserve to be killed. The both feel that that are “alive” and they plan continue on their spree.

The next day, Brian goes to work and confronts his boss. Brian speaks how inhumane his boss is and the indifferences the have towards each other. Mr. Haney gets mad and eventually fires Brian. After brain is fired, Brian kills Mr. Haney by strangling home while alone at work. Before he leaves, he is confronted by the security at the office. He narrowly escapes with the body of his boss and then takes him to skid row where he disposes him by leaving him on the street.

As Brain and Tonya are talking in the comfort of their home, their neighbor Amber comes to the couple’s house crying because of her husband’s absence. The couple lies to Amber and say that Otis was having an affair. The two convince Amber that she starts her life off new and that Otis is no longer apart of her life. Amber leaves in happy mood and goes about her life without questioning the validity of the explanation that the couple gives.

The next day, Tonya waits for her babysitter to pick up her son Alfonzo. Tyrone, the babysitter’s boyfriend, comes to pick up the couples son by himself. Tyrone, played by Joe Torry, treats her son bad by throwing him around and pushing him into the car. Tonya gets furious. After Tonya sees how her son is being treated, she decides to get back at Tyrone. She plans to “seduce” him before she executes him. Tonya takes Tyrone to her bedroom and handcuffs him to the bed before they have “sex”. After Tonya gets him cuffed up, Brian walks into the room with a stern look on his face. The couple then murders Tyrone and then cut him up disposing his body in a trash bag.

The following scene shows cartoon images of their life as a happy couple. They go on a series of killing sprees and find happiness through killing. Brain and Tonya eventually meet back with their therapist and discuss that their relationship has turned around. They talk about how happy they are and that they both are “Finally living life.”

The next scene the couple is eating dinner at a restaurant where an unruly guest provokes them. The white male says racial slurs that offend the couple. After they finish their dinner, the two wait outside for guy who provoked them in the restaurant. When they see the offender, they run the guy over and kill him. During the process, a waiter that worked at the restaurant is watching them. Brian goes outside to kill the onlooker but the waiter convinces him that he would not tell anyone. Brian decides to spare the waiters life but before he does so, Tonya kills him anyway after their occurrence, they go to a club to party. While at the club, Brain is uneasy about the situation and explains to his wife that they broke the code in which they live by. Brian Says that the waiter did not deserve to die and Tonya agree. Tonya reassures Brian that the situation will not occur again. While the couple are at he club dancing, anther female interrupts them while their dancing and dances provocatively on Brian. After the song is over, Tonya heads to bathroom and finds the intruding woman. Tonya then decides to drown her in one of the toilets thus killing her leaving her dead on the floor.

The next day, Brain goes to get his oil changed where he sees and old friend. He is distraught and hurriedly leaves the primacies. Brain then rushes home in terror where he vents to his wife where he saw his old high school bully, Butch Baily. His wife Tonya suggests that he finds “therapy” in making a visit to butch Baily’s played by Reginald Ballard, work place.

Before he goes to kill Butch, he gets a message to stop killing through a message he saw on television. A commercial with “Jesus Christ” in it tells brain that what he is doing is wrong and that he should stop. Brian continues the plan of killing his arch nemesis Butch Baily. He heads back down to the shop where he confronts Butch. Butch is friendly with him and reminds him of all the bad deeds that was done to him. Before he kills butch, he breaks down and cannot kill him. He leaves Butch harmless and returns back to his wife.

The next scene Brian tells Tonya that they should stop their “fun” and head back to the Lord’s word. He convinces his wife to stop killing for their love but she is reluctant to stop. She “agrees” that she will stop but one can see that she still has the passion to kill in her eyes. After their settlement, Tonya sneaks outside while her husbands sleeps and secretly kills innocent people to satisfy her craving for murder. As her husbands changes his ways, his wife continues to kill. She kills people form young to old meanwhile her husband performs godly acts such as getting singing in the choir, getting saved, and reading the Bible.

One day the couple reads the newspaper where an article says, “ City is terrorized by serial killer” Brian says “Aren’t you glad we’re not in that business anymore” and she “agrees” that they aren’t. Brian then leaves to work leaving Tonya alone at the house. As Tonya is alone, a salesman comes to her door offering to sell expensive cutting utensils (knives) for cooking. Tonya invites the man inside and kills him with her “new silverware.” Brain comes home later in the day and says that he was promoted at work. He looks for his wife in the house and finds her cutting up the salesmen that she killed earlier. Brian gets mad because she lied to him about her stopping the killing spree. The two argue about the situation. As they argue, a police detective rings their doorbell and interrupts the couple. The officer questions them about people missing that they are related to. They try to rush the detective out their home giving him plausible answers to the question he asks them. Before he leaves, he asks to use their bathroom. They offer their bathroom and wife kills the detective.

The wife tries to convince the husband to help but he insists not to. Afterward, Brian sits down with his wife and begs her to stop. They both agree that they must “do what they have to do”. Brian prays to the Lord for guidance with the situation. He tries to kill her by shooting her but cannot do it. Before he shoots her, he drinks a drink that his wife made. His wife put poison in his drink but it is ineffective. After he settles down, the wife hits him on the head with a frying pan. They both fight each other in the house in which Tonya gets the gun in which Brain tries to shoot her with. Brian confesses his love to Tonya and they both stop and conclude they will be with each other forever.

The last scene in the movie shows the two packing their bags in which they are fleeing the country and are headed to the islands because of their violent activities. When they leave their house, they are both shot by a shotgun and killed instantly. The scene ends with their neighbor amber holding the gun while walking away.
