Erik Karlsson Vasa's Uprising refers to an uprising against Sweden initiated by Erik Karlsson Vasa and supporters of Jöns Bengtsson Oxenstierna
Background
[edit]Reason for the uprising
[edit]The exact reason for the uprising is mostly unknown. Some sources make Erik Karlsson Vasa out to be a knight eager for battle, who wanted to start a war for his own satisfaction. According to other sources, it was supporters of Jöns Bengtsson Oxenstierna who rose up again, after he had been deposed a few years prior. Other sources also point to a possible motive being that Karl Knutsson had caused anger to rise in the nobility after he forbade them to engage in piracy.[1]
Among those who defect to Erik Karlsson include: Erik Nilsson, Ivar Gren, Trotte Karlsson, David and Kristian Oxenstierna.[1]
