Cercanías Bilbao, also known as Aldirikoak - Bilbao, is a commuter rail system that serves Bilbao, in Spain, and its metropolitan area. It is operated by Cercanías Renfe, the commuter rail division of Renfe. It has three different lines, with all of them calling at Bilbao-Abando station, the terminal station from which all lines depart and arrive. Lines C1 and C2 run through the city of Bilbao in a tunnel with several stations. Bilbao-Abando and San Mamés have connections with the Metro. They follow the left bank of the Estuary of Bilbao until Barakaldo, where each one separates, C1 to Santurtzi and C2 to Muskiz. C3 goes inland through the provinces of Biscay and Alava to Orduña.
Lines
[edit]Cercanías Bilbao has three lines; all of them departure from Bilbao-Abando station.
Line C1
[edit]The Line C1 is the most used of the three lines and formerly it was part of Bilbao to Portugalete and Triano Railway and goes through the left bank of the Estuary of Bilbao. The rail track for line C1 is not used only by the commuter rail trains, but also by freight trains. They use this line to connect with the Port of Bilbao.
The Line C2 also belongs to the former Bilbao to Portugalete and Triano Railway and spans the region called Zona Minera.
