About me

[edit]

My name is Greyson Anderson and I'm a student attending Olympic College whom is enrolled in English 101, taught by Stevenarntson. I've moved four times across two counties in Washington and now reside in Kitsap County. My favorite activity to partake in is driving because the scenery in Washington is amongst the best in the United States.

My Wikipedia activities

[edit]

I first started using Wikipedia to find sources through articles to read in order to find specified information to use in essays for my classes. I am now interested in using Wikipedia to add to the conversations/knowledge of subjects I am interested in. The topics I am interested in are 20th century history, Modern Conflicts, and Music. I believe it's dangerous that people think for themselves less and less due to the mixture of opinion and fact in mainstream news publications. I hope to edit out bias in articles about topics that have definitive fact to allow others the ability to have an opinion that they have to come up with.

Scabiosa Article Evaluation

[edit]

I chose the Scabiosa article because it's what was chosen by the random flower generator along with actually having an article about it. I want Wikipedia's article about the Scabiosa to be represented better and to achieve this goal, visited the Scabiosa article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth Commenting on: It is very neutral, the structure could be worked upon, and it lacks needed citations.

This article doesn't have any bias in it, when reading, each section lacks any sort of bias towards any of the subjects discussed with in the article. In general the article talks in complete facts rather than opinions which is only problematic due to the lack of sources when discussing the stated facts within the article.

Some subsections of the Scabiosa article don't need to be there own thing due to the lack of information they provide. Rather than completely removing the work it would be beneficial to move a subsection, such as Etymology and/or Ecology into the description since it is a singular sentence.

This article lacks citations making a lot of what is says unreliable to use since you would have to dive into the references the author has used. The 7 references within the article is not enough, there are several parts of the article with needed citations such as the description and ecology subsections of the article.

To conclude, I'd consider this page "mediocre." The article has a broad range of decently organized topics yet cited few sources let alone some being relevant for what was being discussed making some information unreliable. There's also information that shouldn't be standalone pieces, such as the etymology of "Scabiosa" since it is a singular sentence and would be better suited in the description part of the page. This point stands with other parts of the page since some pieces of standalone info do not have enough substance to be separate from bigger sections such as the description.
