Article Evaluation

[edit]

Health and fitness have always been a very interesting topics to me. I enjoy finding foods that fuel my body the best and am always searching for good alternatives to certain foods that contain the most benefits. With that being said, I visited the Himalayan salt page on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: lack of information on Food and Drug Administration status, lack of link to Wikipedia's Salt lamp, and the abundance of information about the mineral composition.

Food and Drug Administration

[edit]

Due to the fact that the benefits of Himalayan salt are controversial and many people have different beliefs, it is important to note the standing it holds with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). this article mentions it briefly, but there is too much missing information about this aspect of Himalayan salt to be overlooked, as it is now.

Salt Lamp

[edit]

Himalayan salt is often used in salt lamps. These types of salt lamps are used widely for many different reasons, including spiritual reasons, decoration, as well as many other uses. Salt lamps were mentioned, however the wiki link for Salt lamp was not mentioned. I think that this article needs to cover all of the elements of Himalayan salt and by not linking this article it seems to have missing information.

Mineral Composition

[edit]

One aspect that I feel is worth mentioning about this article is the extensive amount of information about the mineral composition of Himalayan salt. The list that goes into extensive information about the composition of the salt. It is good to look at the makeup of the salt. However, in regards to this article I think it would be very beneficial to talk about the comparisons of Himalayan salt and regular table salt. One main draw of Himalayan salt is that it is ''healthier'' and I think it would be important to show why it may or may not be better.

Summary

[edit]

Overall this article had many good details and gave a lot of background information on Himalayan salt. It lacked information from the FDA which I feel would have been beneficial to this article. In addition it lacked a wiki link to the page about salt lamps. The mineral composition was mentioned with an extensive amount of information, but I think it lacked a comparison to regular table salt. Overall I would rate this article as "good".

About Me

[edit]

I am Greta Hendrickson, the owner of this page. A little background on me- I am currently in school pursuing a nursing degree, which has been my dream job for as long as I can remember. I love anything to do with science, the medical field and people, so I believe it is a great fit. My other passions include hiking, traveling (pre-pandemic), acrylic and watercolor painting, interior design, shopping and spending time with those who I love. I also spend a good portion of my time with my new labradoodle puppy, Ollie. Ollie is a perfect fit in my family, due to his clever, friendly and energetic temperament[1].

My Wikipedia interests

[edit]

I am creating this page as per required in one of my college classes, so that is the main purpose of this account. However after recently learning about how Wikipedia works, I have sparked an interest in diving further into different pages and fact checking them as well as potentially writing my own.
