I am currently a Junior at Drake University. I have Religion Major with English and Anthropology Minors and a Concentration in Urban Education. I am enrolled in Global Youth Studies at Drake University which has brought me into the Wikipedia community. I am currently interested in pursuing a Masters in Urban Education for Social Justice in the United States after graduating from Drake University. In the summer I am a camp counselor and enjoy working with young people of all ages. This past semester I studied "Post-Genocide Restoration and Peacebuilding" through SIT Study Abroad in Kigali, Rwanda.

Youth in Rwanda
[edit]For my Global Youth Studies Wikipedia project I am looking to create a new page entitled Youth in Rwanda. This page, which I will create from the ground up, will center on specific developments in the lives of youth today in Rwanda. In order to better develop Wikipedia's global pages, a Youth in Rwanda page will put perspective into youth studies in the small East African country. Since the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994, all of Rwanda has been forced to rebuild and develop. Youth have become an important part of the development and changes taking place in the country today. An article on Wikipedia articulating how this generation of youth, many who were born after the genocide, have affected the countries success as it rebuilds.
Through Wikipedia, and past semesters of my Global Youth Studies course, many other "Youth in _________" have been created or developed. In creating my new page for Rwanda, I will pay close attention to the positive aspects of those youth pages while also looking at places that can be improved i so I can be aware of shortcomings in my own page. One of the pages that I think will be most influential in my own writing will be the page on Youth in South Africa. Not only does it have one of the most robust lead paragraphs but it also discusses a youth generation that has also been born after a large event in the country's history, in this case apartheid.
In addition I will pay close attention to Wikipedia's manual for leads because it is one of the most important parts of the article. Readers have to understand why an article specifically on Rwandan youth is important. I want to be able find the needed research to accurately discuss why it is important. Many "Youth in _______" pages focus on statistics of the young generation and their role within the country in the lead paragraph. My research will include a healthy dose of statistics and will hopefully give me a well rounded perspective on youth in education, government, and development since those three areas are of upmost importance in Rwanda today. My experiences in Rwanda this past semester gave me a great understanding of youth in the country from a personal level and I just need to ensure I find the correct research to make my Wikipedia page accurate and objective. I look forward to moving forward with this page.
