[edit]Well, when two good sources gave different proportions, I just had to investigate :) The article, however, can still be expanded with (at least) rules and regulations in regards to the flag waving etc. procedures, but that'd better be done by someone who cares about this subject a lot more than I do :) Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 19:20, April 29, 2009 (UTC)

I remember a couple of Icelandic editors I worked with on Tafl games, maybe I could drop somebody a line personally... Anyway, thanks for the help with the HBC project! [edit]Hey, per this thread, I'm seeing what I can do about you joining. Could you please choose a flag of a real or historical nation that has not already been chosen? I see you're in WikiProject Germany- the German flag is still available, as are plenty of historical or local flags in Germany.

Also not used are the flags of Libya, Indonesia, Monaco, East Germany. Good luck! Suomi Finland 2009 (talk) 01:55, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Re: Coat of arms/Armorial
[edit]I only use the term to mix up what would otherwise be a repetitive paragraph. Coat fo arms this coat of arms that arms here coats of arms there simply gets cluttered and monotonous to read. I don't think armorial bearings, heraldic achievement, heraldic device and so forth are misunderstood, and would not be an issue. [tk] XANDERLIPTAK 13:05, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Do not delete assessments please
[edit]As a member of WPSweden, I find this type of deletion of assessments (in this case for Livonian War) as distinctly unhelpful. There is no point whatsoever in making an article unassessed because you wish to have a GA review. If it goes through the GA review, the new assessment will be added at that point. I restored the assessments, but left the GA review template in place, so I don't think there's anything more you have to do for the moment. Regards, Tomas e (talk) 12:28, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Problem with File:Livonian war (1558-60) map.png
[edit]I've posted a message on the talk page. --Jaan Pärn (talk) 17:36, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Here is some information about the Jagiellon Poland article that I mostly wrote and in response to your initial comments, in case it may be helpful with the GA review. Most of the information comes from the two main sources, Wyrozumski (to 1505) and Gierowski (from 1505), that I found suitable because of the continuous semi-chronological presentation. Other sources listed were used comprehensibly to check/add/verify material, but were not quoted in specific references, unless significant additions or corrections were found. I have been using captions occasionally to make additional side comments or remarks. Stanisław Orzechowski in particular was not mentioned in the main text (possibly because there is no English Wikipedia entry for his name). I found this image and included an explanation with it; he is important as a founder of the ideology of Polish nobility that found its full expression in the period that follows the Jagiellon period (the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth). Many images relate directly to the text, other I included to make the subject of the article easier to comprehend for a reader uninitiated to this period of Polish history. This is intended as a chronological presentation, not a set of tables and summaries, I don't see how the wars could separated from the rest. Orczar (talk) 18:53, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, I moved Talk:Poland during the Jagiellon dynasty/GA1 to Talk:History of Poland during the Jagiellon dynasty/GA1 so that the GAN bot doesn't get too confused. Jezhotwells (talk) 01:21, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

This is just a guess, but I think this FAC probably either won't make it or will take a lot of work. Either way, you're clearly a good writer, and I'd like to encourage you to participate at the military history project. In particular, browse our A-class review process. FAC is designed to be fairly inflexible; our A-class process is just the opposite, and you'll get lots of helpful feedback there. - Dank (push to talk) 14:52, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
Undue criticism of Batory
[edit]Undue, because in the aftermath Batory is singled out for criticism. "North of the Düna, Stefan Batory denied..." paragraph seems to me to be - while factually accurate - biased. Batory's policy is portrayed negatively, nothing is said of his positive contributions, some of the actions every ruler does (changing administration of newly acquired territories) are stressed and implied as unique, the impression that the Commonwealth was invading foreign, hostile territory and brought only suffering and misery is rather implicit as well. PS. As I also noted in the review, the fact that this criticism is sourced to foreign language, offline sources, and seems to be hard to verify with English ones, is an additional indicator of an undue problem. I'd suggest either that majority of this paragraph is removed (or moved to talk), or that it is expanded, and similar descriptions of treatment of Livonian territory by all other powers be added. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:39, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Livonian War ACR
[edit]Hi, Grandiose. I've closed the Livonian War A-class review as "not promoted". Unfortunately the 28 day review period has passed and the article did not receive the required three supports. I hope this won't discourage you from continuing to develop the article and you are free to renominate the article whenever you feel it is ready. Sorry
[edit]Hey, I am sorry I have not followed up with the Livonian War review/images. I did not forget you, but I am very busy these days and I can access WP for just a short time for some quick tasks. The article reviews require concentration and at least a couple hours... which is not something I can afford at the moment. I am slowly translating the map that you made, but it's taking forever :( Renata (talk) 00:48, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
Factoring Polynomials
[edit]Hi, I'm the OP at the math question posted here. I'm a bit curious as to what you mean by your answer when I factor ax^2+bx+c
When you say that you first start with something like (x _ _)(3x _ _)
What did you mean by 3? Is 3 the coefficient that went with x^2? In other words is number 3 in your example the "a" in "ax^2+bx+c", therefore: (x _ _)(ax _ _) ?
Thanks. (I guess you could answer the question here, but I would prefer if you answered it at the reference desk.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.132.6.46 (talk) 21:02, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Signature
[edit]Please don't bold your username in your signature. People format signatures in all sorts of ways, but unvarnished bold (you may see bold+italic or bold+a weak colour) is not used because it's disruptive for people skimming discussions. Thanks. Rd232 talk 14:50, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I don't understand your objection. I believe my signature, if anything, stands out less than many others when going through a block of text. What is it a reader confuses it with? Grandiose (me, talk, contribs) 15:06, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
- It's not that it's confusing, it's that it draws the eye more than most signatures, because it is simple emphasis (that's what bold is for). Other signatures may use all manner of formatting, but the net result is not to be confused with the sort of in-comment emphasis people sometimes use, eg Support etc. Sorry, but your signature is disruptive by impeding the ability of readers to scan discussions.
