Hello!

[edit]

Thanks for looking at my user page. You may be here to know a bit more about me and why I'm editing what I'm editing.

I've long been a fan of all things free, growing up in South Africa during the apartheid times. Freedom is behind much that I do these days, especially freeing business from being controlled by a few shareholders, so that business can meet society's needs, rather than those of a couple of shareholders. Especially address climate change, the SDGs etc. Creating free versions of the limited company, and integrating this with self-governing and deliberately developmental ways of running organisations has been my focus since 2008.

Before that I worked for Procter and Gamble in an R&D management role, and prior to that as an academic, researching high temperature particle physics using lattice gauge theory. This is a branch of particle physics theory that lives on the fastest supercomputers around. Where I had a lot of fun writing programs using Emacs and then running them on Crays, Quadrics and the CP-PACS machines.

This background probably explains why I believe that, in order to address our global challenges, we need to

  • reinvent business and the economy by changing the smallest building blocks (shares, people) and their interactions
  • and that we can only do that if we extend freedom from natural human beings to legal beings.
