Appearance
Bromide hydrides are mixed anion compounds containing bromide (Br−) and hydride (H−) anions. Bromide hydrides may be cluster compounds, containing hydride atoms in a core, surrounded by a layer of metal atoms, encased in a shell of bromide ions. In Zr2Br2H the hydride is enclosed with tetrahedral coordination.[1] Others may be transition metal complexes with hydrido ligands.[1]
Bromide hydrides may be prepared by heating a metal hydride, with a metal bromide,[2] or by heating a low valent metal bromide in hydrogen.
Related compounds include other halide hydrides like chloride hydrides and iodide hydrides.
