Search and Structure
[edit]A lot of Wikipedia entries are stubs. Often an article consists of little more than a redirect. This is particularly the case with people who may only be notable for a minor role in a more notable story.
For example there are separate articles on Myra Hindley, Ian Bradey and the Moors Murderers. Hindley and Brady are only notable as serial killers, but there is difference between the biographical article and the historical article.
What we really need here is a better transclusion mechanism, in effect a redirect with an introduction. So that the Myra Hindley story has the extended biography followed by the main article, the Brady story likewise.
There should also be a way to allow links to the victims so that these show up in search without the need to create stub articles. So for example Lucy Partington would 'somehow' be listed as a victim in the article and this would mean that when someone entered Lucy Partington" as a search they would get a synthesized article of the form "Lucy Partington a victim of the serial killers Fred and Rosemary West"
It seems to me that what we need here is some sort of template and the ability to get information from the template into the search engine.
