Pilot Creative Services
History
[edit]In 2006, James Johnson, the CEO and managing director of Pilot Creative Services, was involved in the music scene in Brooklyn and Manhattan as a vocalist. He worked closely with the late Disco D and Benny Blanco. Disco D's unfortunate passing led James to set aside his music career for the time being to pursue management. This was James' first business venture in the music industry, but not his first business. Before being a vocalist, he had a high fashion company, in Italy, and a custom car design company. Using capital from his past businesses, he provided Benny with the tools to professionally produce, and he began to manage him on a full time basis. Benny, at age 17, got signed to a publishing deal after working with Spank Rock.
James' close ties with New York/ Jamaica based production-duo Brukkout and engineer/producer Samuel Vaughan Merrick led him to manage them around this time. Samuel Vaughan Merrick did recording, mixing, editing, and additional production on Bangers & Cash, the Spank Rock album that Benny produced. Angelo Lomelo, a producer and DJ, released his first official remix in 2008 of the Bangers & Cash song "Bitch." The remix set him up to be recruited by Pilot Creative Services.
In 2008, Pilot Creative became active in pop music. Benny worked with Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Lil Mama, and Vanessa Hudgens.
