Chas Peanuts (born Charles Henry Clifford Jr.; December 12, 1942–May 13, 2008) was an American musician.
Peanuts may best be known for being a member of the Bluegrass band The Cousins from 1966-1982 with several of his cousins (listed above in associated acts). Peanuts was also in the grout The Spinneys and did some solo work with Richard Spinney of The Spinneys.
He was also friends with country singer John Vance Wilson/John-Paul Vance (April 8, 1933-disappeared December 4, 1999).
Early Life
[edit]Peanuts was born on December 12, 1942, in Kingston, Arkansas to Mary C. Grace (1912-1991) and John Mark Clifford (1911-1988). Peanuts was named after his maternal grandfather who’s nickname was Peanuts.
Though he was born in Arkansas, Peanuts spent most of his adult life in Kentucky, and Tennessee.
Personal Life
[edit]Peanuts married Linda “Linnie” Davis (July 22, 1943–September 19, 2009) in 1964. They had been together since 1959 when she was 16 and he was 17. They remained happily married until his death in 2008 with her following a little over a year later. Davis would often accompany Peanuts on stage and they would also record together.
Death
[edit]Peanuts died of a Heart Attack at his winter home in Parker, Arizona on May 13, 2008. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 2005, and retiring in 2006 due to it.
