Janet Goodrich, PhD (1942-1999) was an internationally best-selling author and world renowned educator on Natural Vision Improvement. Over her more than thirty years in the field Janet Goodrich’s work helped people around the world to see clearly without glasses, contact lenses or surgery. Through many years of study, practice and teaching she developed a whole person approach to eyesight training called The Janet Goodrich Method. Her two books have been printed in more than seven languages around the world and remain popular. They include Natural Vision Improvement first published in 1985, and Help Your Child to Perfect Eyesight without Glasses first published in 1996. (Currently printed in the USA as How to Improve Your Child’s Eyesight Naturally, a Thoughtful Parent’s Guide.

Janet Goodrich grew up in the farming country of mid-Michigan in the USA. At the age of seven she was given a pair of thick glasses for myopia and astigmatism, and she wore them constantly for the next twenty years. Secondary school was followed by four years at the University of Michigan, where she studied languages, philosophy and behavioral psychology. A year was spent in Berlin on a Fulbright scholarship and another year teaching at the high school in her home town.

She moved to Los Angeles in 1967 and became involved in Reichian therapy, natural childbirth, alternative education, nutrition and natural health. After studying the Bates Method and with one of the last Corbett teachers in Los Angeles, she no longer needed glasses and had the eyesight prescription restriction removed from her driver’s license.

Janet completed training as a Reichian therapist, obtained her Ph.D. in psychology on vision & character, and determined to help others improve their eyesight. She designed and built the Vital Health Centre in Encino, California in 1975, a ground-breaking holistic health centre that provided chiropractic, psychological and nutritional counseling as well as eyesight training. She directed the Vital Health Centre and taught vision improvement for all ages, over many years bringing together knowledge from a wide range of fields to develop The Janet Goodrich Method of Natural Vision Improvement.

Janet moved her family to Australia in 1983. After living in Melbourne and Adelaide she moved permanently to South East Queensland. She was based there for many years, traveling to Europe, the USA and Asia to lecture and train instructors in her method.

Through exploring and resolving the causes of visual blur rather than just the symptoms Janet Goodrich demonstrated that eyesight can improve. She believed that eyesight begins to deteriorate due to physical and/or emotional stress at a particular period in one's life. By using physical activities to rehabilitate the current state of the eyes as well as determining the original starting point of refractive error and working through the internal emotional blocks to seeing clearly, people of any age can regain clear vision. Janet’s life work in Natural Vision Improvement has been continued by her daughter Carina Goodrich who trained and conducted courses alongside Janet for many years.
